ZbigniewBrzezinski on Mar 3 at Woodward CenterMichael Eric Dyson, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Gloria Steinem, Greg Mortenson and Danny Glover are all iconic figures whose contributions have had an enormous impact,” Dobelle said. “We are happy to give our students and neighbors the rare opportunity to engage these extraordinary individuals in person.” Dyson is an academic, author, and radio host.  Ebony magazine named him one of the most influential black Americans. He received a Ph.D in religion from Princeton University and is an ordained Baptist minister. The Onion is a Peabody award-winning, “fake-news” organization. TV newscaster Tom Brokaw calls Mortenson, “one ordinary person, with the right Danny Glover at Westfield State Collegecombination of character and determination, who is really changing the world.”

Rethinking Downtown Westfield Update

The Downtown Planning Committee met and reviewed the many action steps outlined in the recently completed Re-Thinking Downtown Westfield Final Report.  The Committee found that all of the action steps could be collected into three basic groups (including a few that appear in more then one group).

1. Downtown Relations and Citizen Engagement
2. Downtown Marketing, Business Development and Planning
3. Downtown Policy and Investment

The Committee concluded that the best way to implement the recommendations of the Final Report was to establish these as three working committees and to solicit the participation of the many people who are interested and have been involved in the downtown revitalization process. Now that the holiday season is behind us, it’s time to regain the momentum of the Re-thinking Downtown Westfield process.
In that light, the Downtown Planning Committee has decided to re-focus itself as the Downtown Action Committee.  Attached you will find a sign-up sheet if you would like to participate on any of these Working Committees or any particular Action Steps.  We categorized the Action Steps for each committee based on both the on-going Live, Work, Play & Connect themes as well as whether the tasks are Short-Term, Medium-Term or Long-Term.  You can sign up for a Committee by simply placing a check mark on the line preceding it, or you can also sign up for specific Action Steps by checking them off.  Feel free to sign up for more then one Committee and as many action steps as you would like.

Once you’ve completed your form please return it to Larry Smith, Community Planning Director, either by email, regular mail (59 Court St., Westfield, MA 01085), or drop it off in City Hall, Room 301. The City of Westfield thanks you for your interest and participation.
